Manhattan, Sandstone

The pattern for Manhattan is a magical zigzag print, celebrating the electric city of New York. The print was first featured in the 1984 Magic Carpet Collection on chiffon dresses with gorgeous pointed hems and hand-finished glittering beads.

In the 80’s Zandra was a frequent visitor of Studio 54. It was a fabulous, glitzy time where Donna Summer was all the rage and Zandra would be pictured leaving the club in the early hours with Bianca Jagger. At that time, Zandra was staying with her friend Divine in his penthouse on 85th Street and would go out early in the morning and draw the skyscrapers. What a monumental time for arts, fashion and subcultures! Full of colourful explosions and glitter, Zandra portrayed The Empire State and Chrysler Buildings as a giant, sparkling icicles.
