Ayers Rock, Valentine

Zandra first traveled to Australia for a large publicity campaign for her textile designs for Selkers Silks and Australian Women’s Weekly. She fell in love with Australia and its countryside and people.

“I first visited the centre of Australia in 1973 and drew this amazing rock with the spiky spinifex grass in the foreground. This resulted in this fabulous Ayers Rock print.”

The pattern was used for wonderful square cloaks in wool felt and classic one sided chiffon dresses that have become immortalised by Jackie Kennedy and Lauren Bacall. Zandra’s Ayres Rock campaign poster is of Marissa Berenson in 1974.
